Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Yarn (“Yarn,” “we,” “us”) handles personal information when you use writewithyarn.com and the related writing service (the “Service”). Yarn is a private place to write a story and to keep notes beside it.

We collect the information you give us in order to create and operate your account:

• Your email address, and a password if you create an account with email.
• Your display name, and an avatar you upload, including any crop you save.
• The writing you store in the Service, including manuscripts, characters, world notes, covers, and images.

Passwords are handled by our authentication provider. Yarn does not store your password in plain text.

If you sign in with Google, we receive the basic account details Google provides for that sign-in, including your name, email address, and profile photo. We use the profile photo as the default avatar for your Yarn account unless you upload a different picture. We do not receive your Google password.

When you use the Service, the systems that host and secure it may record technical information such as your IP address, browser type, device type, and the dates and times of requests. We use a session cookie to keep you signed in. Your browser may also store a preference for light or dark appearance on your device.

We use personal information to:

• Create and maintain your account and your shelf of stories.
• Authenticate you and keep your session signed in.
• Send a password-reset email when you ask for one.
• Store and display your writing and pictures back to you.
• Protect the Service, investigate abuse, and keep the service operating.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your manuscripts, notes, or other writing to train machine-learning models.

We share personal information with service providers that process it on our behalf, and only as needed to run the Service:

• Supabase, for accounts, the database, and private file storage.
• Google, when you choose to sign in with Google.
• Resend, to deliver transactional email such as a password reset.
• Vercel, to host the Service and its logs.

We may also disclose information if we believe in good faith that the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Yarn, our writers, or the public. If Yarn is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, personal information may transfer as part of that transaction, and we will continue to protect it under this policy or a successor policy.

Yarn’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We use Google user data only to provide and secure the sign-in and profile features you ask for. We do not sell Google user data, and we do not use it for advertising.

We keep account information and the writing you store for as long as your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete or de-identify the personal information associated with it, except where we need to keep a record to meet a legal obligation, resolve a dispute, or enforce our agreements. Server logs are kept for a limited period and then deleted or overwritten in the ordinary course.

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures designed to protect personal information, including access controls on stored files and encrypted connections. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

You may review and update your display name and avatar in your profile. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you by emailing hello@writewithyarn.com. You may also stop using the Service at any time. If you are in a region that provides additional privacy rights, you may exercise those rights by contacting us. We will not discriminate against you for doing so.

Yarn is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from another country, your information may be processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the effective date above. If a change is material, we will provide a more prominent notice, such as a note in the Service or an email. Your continued use of the Service after the update means you accept the revised policy.
